Scadoxus multiflorus (formerly Haemanthus multiflorus)
An African bulb that flowers in the May heat on a bare stalk. One round red head, 10-12cm across, holding one to two weeks. Leaves come with the rains and die back in February; the pot is then empty for two to four months - dormant, not dead.

- Water when the top 2-3cm dries while in leaf. Stop completely once the leaves die back - a dormant bulb in wet soil rots.
